Product Description ------------------- CMC's precision diecast replica of the famous No. 14 Competizion Ferrari 250 GT SWB in scale 1.18. View larger ( https://images-na.ssl-images-.com/images/I/61O3LOvjlaL.jpg ) Historical Background --------------------- From the mid-1950’s through the early years of the 1960’s, the Ferrari 250 GT Berlinettas dominated the GT-class races around the world. The production of Berlinettas moved from a long wheelbase to a short wheelbase in 1959, and out of the latter grew the racing version “Competizione.” One of the best-known Competiziones is Chassis 2689, the silver Berlinetta with a prominent blue Gordini French racing stripe. This car was assembled on May 30, 1961 -- just in time to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans that was held eleven days later. Jean Guichet and Pierre Noblet teamed up and raced their No. 14 Competizione to a terrific victory in the GT-class. In addition, they walked away with a sensational 3rd place in the overall standings of all participating race cars. The CMC miniature also does justice to the winning car in fun-providing ways, ranging from a functional steering wheel, removable wheels, side-dependent threads of the central locking nuts, and an almost fully-replicated engine compartment to the doors, flaps, and a trunk cover that can open and lead one to discover impressive interior. Technical Data of the Original Vehicle: --------------------------------------- * 12-cylinder V-engine with two overhead camshafts * Maximum output up to 290 hp at 7,000 / rpm * Top speed up to 270 km/h * Aluminium two-door coupé body (curb weight 1,022 kg) True to the original, the interior and seats are covered with real fabric, the wheel in wood grain, plastic and rubber components complete with all instruments and control panel elements. Understandably it belongs in the most desired of all vintage cars. 2008 saw a Ferrari 250 GT land one of the highest bids that had ever been made in automobile auctions. Plus all charges and surcharges, the final cost of the car aed to 7.04 Million Euros or about 10 Million US Dollars. Why? The reason was well summarized in the name of the auction, Leggenda e passione (“legend and passion”). By the end of the 1950’s, famous race drivers, such as Stirling Moss, Wolfgang Graf Berghe von Trips, John Surtees and Maurice Trintignant virtually felt obliged to drive a Competizione, which is equipped with features that make it highly adaptive to racing conditions, including removal of the front and rear bumpers, bigger wheels, broadened rear wheel housings ed with splash guards, little insect-guard windshield on the bonnet, exhaust pipes with SNAP extractors, and so on. From the Manufacturer --------------------- A 1/18 precision model of the Competizione version of the Ferrari 250 GT SWB. From the mid-1950’s through the beginning of the 1960’s, the Ferrari 250 GT Berlinettas dominated the GT-class races around the world. The production of Berlinettas started with a long wheel base version, followed by a short wheel base version, which was introduced in 1959 and became a fixture until the 250 Series was eventually phased out of production. One of the most famous examples of the racing version "Competizione" is Chassis 2689, the silver Berlinetta with its prominent blue Gordini French racing stripe. 2689 finished 3rd overall at Le Mans in 1961, and won the GT class. CMC offers you this legendary racing GT in the form of a precision model with the highest possible level of details and authenticity. This is a limited-edition of 7000 pieces. The "Competizione Le Mans" comes with many distinctive features compared to the street version: Devoid of the front and rear bumpers, additional front air inlets for cooling the disk brakes, big 16-inch wheels that measure 6.0 x 16 (front) and 6.5 x 16 (rear), wind deflector on the bonnet, rear splash guards, exhaust pipes with chromed SNAP extractors, protection plate for the left double exhaust pipe, adjustable illumination for the starting number on the trunk, red pit-stop light on the right rear fender, undercarriage with cover plates, jack slots in the front for quick lifting, functional quick opening/closing cover for the fuel tank (with no tank cap per se), spacious trunk with a larger tank (approx. 130 liters) and a removable spare wheel, door side trim panel is uncovered (without window crank mechanism), carburetor system with open induction intakes and air box, silver body paintwork with a blue racing stripe, starting numbers generated by the tampon printing method.
