Ok, for the price this knife is a great value. First of all I love the slim handle and overall feel of it. It combines a low profile in the pocket with a hefty high quality blade. Looks sharp as hell in a classic sort of way, intimidating even. Razor sharp out of the box. Would love to know the bevel angle for when it will need sharpening. The only imperfection is that the opening/closing mechanism is a bit dated and old fashioned. I will say that when opened it feels solid as hell. No play whatsoever and a little lubricant in the pivot helps a ton. But it’s definitely not a one hand closer, even though it is a one hand opener. Still, as an edc its slimness makes up for it. I literally can’t feel it in my pocket.

I bought this folding knife for everyday carry (EDC), but it has clearly decided that its everyday job is to test my pain tolerance. It is a masterpiece of engineering that refuses to be contained by a mere pocket. Opening it is a breeze. Closing it is a high-stakes game of Russian roulette where my thumb is always the loser. This blade doesn't just cut packages; it marks its territory. Pros Terrifyingly sharp: Slices through thick cardboard like butter. Flawless action: Opens so fast it defies the laws of physics. Ergonomic grip: Extremely comfortable to hold right up until the moment it bites you. Cons Thirst for blood: Has developed a taste for human sacrifice. Lacks boundaries: Treats my fingers with the exact same disrespect it shows a heavy-duty zip tie. Final Verdict This is an incredible tool if you need to survive in the wilderness. It is less ideal if you just want to open Amazon boxes without needing a paramedic on standby. It currently lives in my desk drawer inside a padded lockbox for its own safety—and mine.

I own 45 knives ranging from $35 to $800. I have only minimal experience with Cold Steel but they have a reputation for large over built knives. When I saw the Code 4 for 69 bones I couldn't pass on it. On first opening the box I was impressed with the look and feel. It's very solid but light weight. The handle is very thin and the ergonomics are excellent. The gunmetal scales look great and the screws are a combination of brushed and polished. The blade is S35 which has fallen out of favor the last few years but it's still a great choice. The grinds are even, the blade is hair shaving sharp, and the blade is stout. The Triad lock is legendary for its strength and the blade locks up more solidly than any knife I own. Holding it close to the tip and trying to find any wiggle in the blade doesn't move it side to side or up and down. I have seen a lot of complaints about the back lock being hard to unlock but mine is pretty smooth. After so much time using the Spyderco opening method the thumb studs feel a little weird but I'm sure with a little flipping I'll get better. Its kind of a mid size knife but it carries really well because the scales are really thin. The only thing I can see as a possible problem is lack of traction on the scales. They're pretty smooth and it may be an issue with wet or cold hands. I own most of the internet experts top choice knives and have to say this knife is better than knives costing 2 or 3 times the Code 4. If you want ~ a 3.5 inch blade on a heavy duty knife get this. The Code 4 is awesome, even at $90 I'd say buy it because you can not get a better knife for the money.

It took me awhile before picking up the Code 4. Couldn’t pass up on the price. Amazon has amazing prices on Cold Steel knives. Nice thin handle, the action is always great, super sharp with that S35vn steel. Nice large size knife. It’s a Cold Steel the lock up is awesome with the tri-ad lock. Look its a great quality Cold Steel knife. The aluminum scales look more green than gunmetal gray as the advertise on the website. Still looks good

Best value out there in the pocket knife world. Can’t beat S35VN, solid aluminum handle, and tri-ad lock for around $70. For a big knife, the hollow grind still allows it to cut well. It’s not my very favorite knife. Like all Cold Steels, it has a couple quirks: the blade to handle ratio isn’t super impressive, and it requires a lot of force to unlock, so it’s not the kind of knife for fidgeting at your desk. Also, the handle on the Code 4 is quite thin. This makes it a joy to carry, but not as comfortable to hold as some other knives out there. I would give 4.5 stars if it were possible. It’s one of the easiest to recommend knives out there, just not quite my absolute favorite.

I picked up the clip point when it was on sale last week for $67. When it came, the first thing I noticed was how light it was for a knife of it's size, and how thin it was, but it was quite rigid. I couldn't even come close to thumb flicking it and the Tri-ad lock was very gritty. Dissapointed, I almost just sent it back. But I didn't. I hit the lock and pivot with a healthy shot of CLP and started working it. It took a little while, but after about 150-200 open/close cycles it was loosening up, and the grit in the lock was nearly gone, and later completely gone. At that point I was able to thumb flick it with ease, but Spidey flicking it is still challenging for me. The blade came decently sharp, but after a bit of work on the hone and the strop, this thing is a screamer. The S35VN blade absolutely performs. A word of caution...when closing with one hand, make sure to get your index finger all the way up the edge of the scales near the blade pivot to catch the flat spot on the bottom of the blade. I was getting cocky with the one hand close and accidentally dropped the blade very lightly across my index finger. With little to no pressure the blade barely even made contact. The blade is so sharp, that I didn't even feel the cut. I had to look down to see blood running down my finger to even know that It had gotten me. So, be careful. I ended up digging the knife so much that I saw the spear point on sale for $62 and picked one of those up too. The first spear point I got had some weird discoloration on both sides of the scales near the pivot. It looked like oil, but I tried alcohol, Goof-Off, and another oiling trying to work the stain out to no avail. I requested a replacement and sent the original back. The second knife came perfect and after putting it through the same paces as the clip point, it's a screamer too. I put a 550 tail on each of them, as I always seem to do, to help with pocket retrieval. I would love to see this knife available with Micarta scales as the aluminum scales are on the slick side, and I'm not sure how they will do with gloves. I would even welcome G10 or Griv-Ex over the aluminum as I'm not sure I've ever seen a Cold Steel with Micarta scales. *EDIT The slickness of the scales eventually got to me so I went searching for some gripshon. I found it via a Talon 998R Rubber Grip Sheet. The sheet was 10 bones and it's enough to do roughly 4 large knives, both sides. It was a fiddley process for me. I traced the frames on paper and refined it several times to avoid the lock and finger cut outs, the pivot, and the frame screws. After I was happy with the pattern, I transferred it to the back of the grip strip. Remember to put your pattern face down when transferring to the back of the grip sheet or you'll end up with a useless backward pattern. A true DOH! moment. At that point I cleaned the hell out of the scales with alcohol about 3 times and let each dry fully, Then you stick on the grips, get them in place and heat it with a hair dryer for 30ish seconds pushing down on the scales particularly the edges. It stuck like a demon with no signs of letting go. I'm quite pleased with the feel of the knife now. Obviously, I wasn't as concerned with aesthetics as I was functionality. Don't get me wrong, it was manageable before, but the grip makes a world of difference. I kept the final pattern and installing to the 2nd knife was a breeze. I intend to keep the pattern in case I ever have to redo them. These are my first two Cold Steels, but they won't be my last. I'm already eyeing an AD-10 in S35VN. If anyone is curious, I'm favoring the spear point (drop point) over the clip point and find myself reaching for it for more often. Overall, I'm very happy with both purchases and definitely recommend the knife and either blade style. For about 50% of retail, it's a no-brainer.

I consider the Code 4 clip point to be a smaller folder from Cold Steel. I thing this is a good value for a well crafted S35VN steel folder. The edge was very sharp out of the box and the triad lock was less stiffer than other cold steel folders that I have tried. The hollow grind makes slicing apples really easy. I am sure that the hollow grind will hold up well due to the use of S35VN steel. The aluminum handle has a smooth finish. While this makes it slim and sleek, it might become slippery to hold after using it for a while. All in all highly recommended.

I’m a knife guy. Someone who has purchased literally dozens of folders and fixed blade knives over the years. Cold steel is one of my favorite knife makers…known for its quality and durability. They are mostly made in Taiwan but that doesn’t bother me as long as the quality is there…and it is. The code 4 represents a crazy value especially on Amazon where you can get them for under $70. I went for the clip point and couldn’t be happier. The knife comes razor sharp out of the box. But why THIS knife? The code 4 is like a gentleman’s knife on steroids. It carries very thin and only about 4 oz but it can handle hard use when necessary. But here’s where it really shines: the lock and the blade steel. The lock is Andrew Demko’s tri-ad lock that is known for its absolute strength. Then you have the blade steel which in this case is S35VN. This steel is known for its edge retention and is typically found only on knives over $100 and usually closer to $200. So with the slim build, super strong lock up and premium blade steel, under $70 is an absolute steal. Who is this knife for? The person who wants an edc that can handle light cutting tasks with ease and when you need it to step up for tougher tasks, will sail through them easily!

Läuft einwandfrei auf Washern mit hauchdünnen Teflonscheiben zusätzlich. Kommt mega scharf an. Nach schleifen ging an der Diamantplatte einwandfrei, jetzt eher nicht schärfer. Der Lock ist prinzipiell nix zum spielen, jedoch erwische ich mich trotzdem oft beim öffnen und schließen, der Sound ist einfach super. Spiel nicht vorhanden. Reinigen ist ein Vergnügen, bei mir läuft das Messer auf fett.

It is not the pimp's knife to scare girls and kids, neither collector's knife that is fancy and stay home for ever. This is a tough tool, a companion, a partner, a blade to rely on. The only thing messing is a case. How can Civivi offer wonderful cases with knives of half price, but Cold Steel can't?

Dieses Messer ist’s absolut scharf. Liegt super in der Hand. Aktuell mein absolutes Lieblingsmesser. Die Qualität ist so hochwertig, dass dieses Messer sich eines Tages vererben lässt. :)
