Great Phone Mount
This works great! I haven't had any problems with it so far, and I don't think I will. As the products is described, it fits into the CD slot, and screws (tightens) into place, and has a secure hold. The magnetic feature actually holds quite well, I mean it's not meant for off-road 20 foot jumps, but even with bumps and jolts during a normal drive through town, it holds the phone in place. Obviously you have the choice to put the magnet inside the case or outside the case. The magnetic hold probably wont take a very heavy phone and case combined weight, I'm not sure what the limit is. If you decide to place the magnet on the outside of your phone/case, keep in mind the adhesive bond is very strong, so it will be a permanent placement until it eventually wears off I suppose. Both supplied magnets, rectangular and circular shaped, work really well. Both are extremely thin so there's not discomfort when placed in a pocket (None that I noticed). Assuming cars have at least one or two air vents above or close to the CD player, your phone will be cooled when running the AC. The mount holder that swivels can be pretty much angled for an easy and accessible use of the phone. After reading some questions before my purchase I wasn't sure about buying it, but it wasn't a bad price. Some plastic parts might be fragile, it's not meant to be forced into place or slammed onto very hard surfaces, so handle with care. When you put it into the CD Slot, it won't go in all the way, don't force it in. I can't say much about cases, but mess around with the magnet some and see how you should and wear to place the magnet. If you're worried about playing a CD at the same time with this in, I'm guessing it may work with this in place. I play music via cassette adapter, so this makes it easier to do that. To wrap this review up, it's a great product. I would recommend it, and if you own a 2000 Dodge Dakota, this will get in the way of a few things (clock, nobs) but it works perfect.

Works with a CD changer (with a caveat).
TL;DR: Very satisfied with this item. It does what it advertises while the cost was about half of the more well-known comparable brands. Some Details/Addressing concerns you may have: One concern I had before purchase was that I have a CD changer. This topic has not been addressed in other reviews, to my knowledge. Typically when I insert a CD, my unit would grab my CD, internalize it, then you would hear the gears shifting to place the CD in an empty slot. I was afraid the TechMatte would activate this shifting once the support was placed in the CD slot, support would jam the gears, CD changer would break. However, at least with my CD changer (and I would think all do this), if the changer is full of CD's, the changer won't budge if you try to insert something in the slot. I did just that and there were zero problems using the TechMatte in the CD changer. So the TechMatte does work with a CD changer if you fill your changer with CDs beforehand. I am NOT willing to experiment what happens if I do not fill my changer with CD's, heh heh. Another concern may be, "Is the magnet strong enough to hold my phone?" My answer is YES. At least in my situation. I actually used the square plate, placing between phone and silicone case. (You get two plates, a square one and a circular one. I think the circular would work as well but haven't tried). However, my phone has only a 4.5in screen and weighs 81g (phone+case+plate). I don't know if a 'phablet' would stay in place on the TechMatte. Also, my case is silicone and I haven't tried other casings to see if the magnetic field is dampened too much in those cases. Also I've driven across the multitude of pothole-ridden roads on my way to work without any noticeable movement on my phone. So, YES, the magnet is strong enough. A last concern I'll address is: "Will the magnet interfere with the operation of my phone?" In my situation, I have not seen any interference with any phone processes. I can still use it as a GPS, get full reception bars, stream Spotify, take calls. I have not been thorough enough to do the test in a 3-bar area of PULLING OVER at that location, taking the phone off the magnet and checking to see if signal improves in absence of magnet. To wrap it up: PROS: -Holds my phone even in rough road circumstances -Won't break my CD changer -Magnet doesn't interfere with operation of phone from what I could tell -Sticks out enough so I don't have to reach over to far (during a traffic stop, of course). CONS -Only one. The platform tightening screw is fairly big. My CD slot is above the display of the unit. So the screw partially blocks my view of the radio station display if I use the radio. (Yeah, I'm in my 40's and listen to morning radio like other dinosaurs. Wanna make somethin' of it?...Now get off my lawn!... [I kid, of course]). "Couldn't I replace the screw with something smaller?" you ask? No, the screw is designed to be loosened but it won't come off entirely. Good so you can't lose it, bad that you can't exchange it. And, no, if I flip the TechMatte over so the screw is on above the display, the angle of the arm makes the presentation of the phone to the driver a really awkward angle, even with adjusting the position of magnetic interface.

Strong magnets hold larger phones fine, rubber grip prevents rotation, plastic is a bit weak.
I have bought all sorts of phone docks/mounts for my cars, so I have a wide gamut of experience in what I like and don't like. This is 1 of 2 different magnetic car mounts I've purchased. I've swayed away from these type of mounts in the past due to worry of GPS interference or Qi charging and NFC blocking. It really depends on your needs and uses, but GPS works fine, and I plan to use this with a Nexus 6p which has no Qi, and moves the NFC to the top of the phone. If you don't have or use Qi or NFC, and have a mostly flat back, then this dock works great! It's strong enough to hold some of the heaviest/biggest phones, and the usage of the CD slot make sit very convenient for both mounting and placement (center of dash, easy to reach, no suction cup failures or sticky residue tape). I also purchased a a very similar vent mount magnet dock, and while the part that grips the vents works fine, the magnets didn't feel as strong, nor did it have the same rubber finish to keep the phone from rotating/slipping accidentally. My 1 star ding is on the plastic rotating "screw knob" to expand the clamp into place. One of the wings on mine already broke, and this could very well be my own fault, but I would expect it to hold up better. I imagine if you are leaving this in your car, you won't be unmounting it from your CD slot often and won't have this issue, but I still have to mention it. Overall i'd recommend this for it's convenience. As many car mounts have the same size ball and socket mechanism, I was able to swap this with other docks and use it as a vent mount still and haven't experiences any issues with it holding only my phone even with the metal insert on the inside of my case.

Best car mount I have ever used
I have been using this car mount for the past week or so and have immediately found it to work better than anything I have ever tried before. I have tried a number of different car mounts that mount in various ways (drink holder, vent, dashboard, CD tray). For my 2013 the CD tray is the best location. The mount I was using up until I got this one worked pretty well, but I needed to put the phone in pretty high otherwise it would block the screen on the radio. (I like the display better in portrait, for landscape it did not block the radio display.) Mounting the device high up, especially a larger phone seemed to make the mount shake more while the car was in motion. With the TechMatte MagGrip I was able to put the metal plate inside my case closer to the bottom and I notice little to no shaking while driving. The thumbscrew to tighten the mount does block a small portion of the screen, but that has not bothered me as it is just a small area and does not affect my vision for things like the backup camera. Before buying a magnetic mount I was a little afraid of it not holding onto the phone when I go over a bump, or coming off easily while trying to touch the screen. I had no need for fear as it holds very well as it is a rather strong magnet. The magnet also has not seemed to cause any kind of problem for the phone (GPS works great while mounted). I also purchased the air vent model (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OJE1SG8) for my wife's car and now I can easily mount either of my two phone in either car. One thing to note is that the CD mount will not work in every car. My wife has a 2015 Chevy Equinox and the CD is recessed near the bottom of the center console. I don't think there is a way for it to work there (it might work if mounted upside down, but it would block an area where you can store stuff at the bottom of the console. But for the Kia Soul it works great and the air vent model works great in the Equinox. Overall this is a great product that does exactly what it intends to do and a good price.

Product damaged car/Company unwilling to do anything.
In theory, this is an excellent product, taking good advantage of a portion of many people's car stereos that they no longer use. It holds the phone securely, and is secure in the CD slot. However, the problem came after installation. I had placed one of these mounts in my wife's car, and went to move it to my car for a road trip I had coming up. It wouldn't budge. I made sure the bolt was loosened, and it still wouldn't budge. Further, the CD player started trying to "read" the CD it thought had been inserted. Try as I could, I was unable to get the mount out of the CD slot. It appeared that some of the rubber that lines the portion that slips into the slot had melted into place. The problem got worse because the CD player continued to try and read/eject the "disc" it was detecting, even when the car was off. This culminated in my wife being stranded yesterday because the CD player had drained her battery down to the point the car would not start. I contacted TechMatte for assistance and to express my disappointment as it looked like we would have to entirely replace her car stereo in order to resolve the issue caused by their device. I was told that the slot was too narrow for the mount (they didn't even know what kind of car my wife had when they made this determination) and that there must have been a CD in the player for it to behave that way (my wife does not use the CD player in her car and no one else drives it.) They did give me some schematics on how to break down the device, and this did allow me to finally get the mount out of the CD slot, but not without some damage to the CD player. I requested a refund on the product because it was now destroyed and had also damaged our car. The company was unwilling to work with me, stating that with the warranty period passed there was nothing they could do. I believe that when a customer has a legitimate problem with a product you make, especially when that problem involves your product damaging their personal property, warranties should not be more important than simply making the issue right. TechMatte refused to do this. I will not be purchasing any more of their products, and I encourage others to avoid them as well.

Great mount for limited mounting options, but occasional call interference??
This mount works well for me because my car has limited mounting options, aside from windshield mounts, which I dislike. The slant of my windshield is so sharp that anything mounted to it is almost out of reach. I used this mount for my iPhone 6 with no issues. However, when I upgraded to a new iPhone 6s, it seems to interfere with my phone signal somehow. While it's mounted on the magnetic mount, the signal has intermittent interference, which can make understanding the conversation a bit difficult. As soon as I remove the phone from the magnetic mount, the signal clears up. I've moved the phone around during calls and the interference occurs only near the magnetic mount head. Interestingly, this overall problem is also intermittent. Sometimes, I have no interference at all. And it worked fine with my iPhone 6 - no interference. ??? I'm still trying to troubleshoot this and find the root cause. To be clear, I never have these interference issues when the phone is not mounted on the magnetic mount. If I find out the cause, I'll update this review. In the meantime, I simply live with it. When I get interference, I remove the phone from the mount and drop it in the cup holder. Not optimal, so I'm also keeping an eye out for a new mount.

A very portable and efficient mount at a great price!
The TechMatte CD Slot mount ( Car Mount, TechMatte MagGrip CD Slot Magnetic Universal Car Mount Holder for iPhone 6S, Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge/S5, LG G4, Apple iPhone 6/5S/5C/5/4S/4, HTC One M7/M8/M9, Nexus 5X ) is a great phone holder that does the job for a very reasonable price. My wife loves this unit because she travels a lot and can easily move it between her car and rental cars without any problems. For myself, I still prefer my ProClip holder, but it cost almost 8 times as much as this one, and is not portable between cars. Pros: - Easy and quick to install and very portable. - Decent ability to rotate/swivel the magnet so the screen is at a good viewing angle. - Extremely convenient to just place or remove your phone and go. Cons: - Have to mount a permanent piece of metal to the back of your phone/case (unless you have a VERY thin case in which you may be able to get away with using the piece of metal that just sits between your phone and the case (but may scratch the back of your phone???). I don't know about this because it didn't work for me... not enough magnetism to keep my iPhone 6+ from sliding right off the magnet as soon as I tried to mount it. - Not the most stable, my iPhone 6+ kind of bounces a little, just enough to get annoying at times. - While the magnet rotates, there is a limit to how low you can make it go. So, depending on the angle of your CD unit and how you install the TechMatte mount it, you may or may not be happy with the angles available to you. - You may have controls/information covered up (inaccessible) while phone is mounted. - While it is not advertised for GPS units, it is still worth noting that if you try to mount a GPS unit to this mount, you will likely never get satellite reception due to interference from the magnet holding the device. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap and efficient way to hold their phone in their car as long as they don't mind having to stick a piece of metal to the back of their case/phone. Even though I have more cons then pros listed, this is still an excellent mount for you if some cons don't apply or you don't mind them, or if like in my wife's case, the pros (portability) greatly outweigh the cons. If I did not already have another option, I would keep this for my phone. For now, I still have both my ProClip and this unit installed in my car. I mounted my TechMatte mount upside down so it won't interfere with my phone when it is in landscape mode in the ProClip mount. Also, installing the TechMatte mount upside down actually improves the viewing angle of devices attached to it in my car. Since I prefer my ProClip more for my phone, I decided to try putting the magnet on my GPS unit, thinking I could put my phone in the ProClip mount and my GPS on the TechMatte mount. Well, they both work great for holding my devices (See pictures), however my GPS will not get reception while mounted to the magnet (the magnet interferes with the GPS somehow), so that was a bust. I was hoping to finally get some use out of an old Garmin Nuvi GPS unit. I will probably end up giving this mount to my wife as a spare or donate it to a friend/family member.

A fantastic way to drive more safely while getting directions
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. When I first received it in the mail, the mount had arrived in three pieces instead of one, and it seemed me like I was missing a piece somehow, like it needed a washer or something to keep the screw part from sliding off the ball joint. When I wrote to customer service, they were professional and responded to each inquiry within 24 hours. They were prepared to send me a new one to replace my seemingly broken one, and while I appreciated the gesture, I wanted to be able to use it right away! When I showed it to my husband, who has more upper body strength than me, he was able to shove the magnet piece onto the ball joint, which then made the screw part unable to slide off the ball joint. He fixed it! Once he did that, we were ready to go! I have to admit, was a little worried about using a magnetic system, but a lot of the former reviews said it would be okay, which was why I was willing to give it a try. For one thing, I have a thick wallet case for my phone. Didn't matter. The flat piece of metal was super thin, and it slipped between the phone and the case easily enough. The magnet's grip to it is STRONG, but it has not affected the phone's performance at all. The wallet part of my case is in the front cover that folds over the face of the phone, so I just keep it folded back while the phone is mounted, and the cards are out of the way and do not seem to be affected by the magnet. When I'm done driving, I just pull the phone from the magnet and go. No fiddling, no releases, no jams. Easy to mount, easy to release, no adjusting for size. I love it! I strongly recommend this device for safe driving with a GPS app. It makes a world of difference and is very easy to use.

Not a strong plastic
Magnet came off the ball joint as the whole mounting fell apart under the knob in less than 3 months, I wouldn't buy it again, too weak for a standard 6.7 inch Galaxy phone with a case!

Fantastic grip, placement and ease of operation.
Stands put, does not move a bit, looks good, great place at cd player door. I can remove if ever I want to hear to CDs. Though I would love to use a bit more wide angle in moving the magnetic base; like I wanted to make the mobile face completely to me > 45+ degrees from parallel to dashboard. The magnet strength is very good; have just started to use it.

Not a great product.
Pretty poor product. Broke within week stress fractured around the screw. Plastic possibly weakened due to australian heat Have previously used the window mount and currently using vent mount which are better solutions.
