Can I use this in offline inventory mode, then later connect device to computer using usb to upload data

No you cannot. This scanner is designed to be directly connected to a computer and transfer the scanned information at the time is is scanned. It does not have its own memory to store scans. In addition it is powered by the host computer via the USB cable connection.

Is there a way to increase the distance for scanning? We have a 12,000 sft warehouse and my staff will need to be able to scan anywhaere in the build

You need wireless barcode scanner for that . There are certain distance in meters barcode scanners you can buy

Does this scanner read codes that are laser marked (black) on metal (somewhat reflective) surface?

If you are referring to standard 1D barcodes printed black on a metalic surface, yes it will work. If the code is etched on the surface, you would need a DPN capable reader. From your description it sounds like you have a standard asset label on a metalic surface and if that is the case, yes it will print fine. if you would like to post a picture, we can advise for sure if it will work.

What is the working range / distance from usb connection of this scanner? i want to scan things about 40 ft away from my computer.
