ToneShaper Guitar Wiring Kit, For Fender HSS Stratocaster, HSS2 (Auto-Split Wiring)

The wiring diagram is really good and I had no issues figuring out what to do and where things go. I used this with two of the standard strat pickups, and a Seymour Duncan humbucker. The pots are good quality, turn nicely. The wiring in this kit is very good quality, though I only used about 6-12 inches of white and black respectively. I have a lot of experience with soldering and electronics, but this was the first time I rewired a guitar- a friend had asked me to help him on his. It took me a few hours from start to finish to complete this. If you don't have experience soldering, it might take you longer but I think it's a project that a beginner could do if you take your time and learn the basics. Be sure to tin the wires. Flux is helpful for the pots, especially if you are not using rosin core solder. Here is the way I did it... Start with the small "hoppers" on the switch, because those are going to be the most challenging to access as you start connecting wires to the pots and switches. After that, connect the resistors and capacitors. Then connect the remaining pickup connections, and finally the jack and grounding connections.

Probably the best sounding HSS wiring kit that I've tried. Getting an HSS guitar wired up just right can be kind of tricky, but this kit makes it doable for a novice. Easy to read instructions with a large color print wiring diagram. Also the price is good, as you would be hard pressed to find all the components of this kit at a lower price.

Great product, replaces everything, fits and all the parts feel well made. You do need to know a little bit about circuitry to put this together, especially if you're like me and you're mixing pickup brands. To address phase issues, you'll need a bit of trial and error to get electricity flowing in the right direction. Also note that the wire colors for the humbucker listed in the wiring diagram do not necessarily correspond with the wire colors. I wired mine up according to the colors and the humbucker sounded weak and my tone knob acted like a volume knob. I recommend calling their phone number, the guy that helped me was super helpful and informative. My setup I went with is an EMG H4 at the bridge with two Seymour Duncan SSL-1 with the middle being reverse wound. The H4 is wired Red = N-, Black = N+, White = S+, Green = S- The guy I spoke to recommended that I wire the humbucker is series rather than parallel. He had me put the white and green together, red on the volume pot, and black as the hot lead. This caused the humbucker to be out of phase and also ended up being out of phase with the middle single coil. The wiring that worked right for me was black and white together, green to volume, red to hot. My EMG paired with the single coil on position 2 gets a bit of hum (as well as the single coils alone), but I expect that may have to do with mixing the brands and the pickups being clearly meant for different styles. Basically I just want to note that this may take you a bit of trial and error. I had to move things around a few times until it came out right, so feel free to give them a call first and make sure you know what to wire to what. Different humbucker manufacturers use different color schemes. Also the optional treble roll off I do recommend, I tried it without it and it's much better with it.

I was extremely impressed with this kit. I've been soldering my own guitars for years and have used all kinds of kits from cheap to expensive and all the way to me buying the parts separately to make a custom wiring harness. The parts that was included was all high quality parts. Will be buying from this company again!!!

I love how easy this kit was to install. All the parts you need for an HSS setup come with this kit as well as a wiring diagram. By having auto-splitting on position 2, you can still get a Strat-style position 2 sound while using a humbucker (just make sure it's a 4 cable rather than the more traditional 1 cable humbucker). ToneShaper's customer service has also been great. I emailed them to ask about adding an additional coil-split to my bridge humbucker with this kit setup and they were quick to respond and very thorough. I'd recommend.

Pretty good kit, but not sure why Tone Shapers went with an Oak Grigsby super switch instead of Switchcraft. Switch is narrow which is good but it’s pretty tall. I had to chisel out some wood from the electronics cavity to make it fit on my old Squier Strat. Maybe it would fit better in an actual Fender but I couldn’t say. Also, the movement on the switch is to long for the pick guard, I had to cut the slot longer in order to get the switch to move far enough to activate the neck pickup and I’m using a pick guard from an Actual Fender. The normal Switchcraft 5 way fit both my guitar and the pick guard no problem. Good wiring diagram and overall good kit, I just don’t like the switch.

Nice kit but I have a MII Squire strat that I wanted bridge humbucker on. Seemed like a good idea but too many issues to deal with. The pocket needed routing and I didn't want to do that. On top of that I didn't like the sound from the single coils with the 500k pots. Everything was nice quality and documentation was above and beyond.

This kit is amazing ! Great parts , very clear instructions ! Anytime I need wiring kits for any guitars anymore I’ll be buying from them !

The instructions are fantastic and the wire, and other components excluding the 500k Ohm variable resistors were of good quality. The pots with only a small amount of pressure when affixing the knobs fell apart. They were fixable but aren’t very strong, due to the soft metal used on the clasps holding the pots together. So only use the fender knob kit (as normal ones with splines have a too small internal diameter) and when pushing the knobs onto the volume and tone pots, hold the back of the pots. Overall I recommend it, and read the instructions and description.
