The paper roll just slides on. The cap on the end of the rod prevents the paper roll from simply sliding off. I doubt a mega sized roll would fit due to the spacing between the wall and the rod but I suppose it will depend on exactly which roll you are using.

Sure. It is very sturdy and could be used on a left handed wall.
