A Great Shave with The Prestige Space Grade Shaver
I purchased the S9886/89 Space Grade Prestige. I had been using the wireless Prestige for three years in two incarnations. However neither one included the Quick Clean pod and both of my previous versions were not compatible with the pod even if I tried to add it. Therefore I decided it was time to purchase the model that included both the wireless pad and the cleaning pod. I hope the cleaning pod used after each shave, will reduce and/or eliminate the need for deep cleaning. The shave was even better than with my two previous ones. Closer and quieter. The pod works well and I use it after each shave. I leave the shaver in the pod for a few hours to “dry”. After that I take it out, open the flip-head and let it air dry on the charging pad. The shaver is not cheap, but definitely worth it in my opinion. It is way too early to comment on battery life. I find it compact and easy to hold while shaving. The pop-up head is a great feature. I love the navy blue color. The manual suggests leaving it in the pod to air dry. I found it takes way too long to dry that way. Even after several hours. the shaving head is still damp. After an hour or two, I remove the shaver from the pod, flip open the shaver and leave it on the wireless charging pad to air dry. Edit: I decided to try the matte black model. This does not offer wireless charging. The shave is great and the Quick Clean pod is really effective in keeping the shaver well maintained. Use with the charging cord is very easy. Just plug it in at the bottom. Shaver holds a charge. Very close shave.

ASTOUNDING!!!
This is hands down, without a doubt, the BEST shaver I have ever used! After reading the reviews about how close and smooth a shave this thing offers, I will admit I was skeptical at first, but also super excited to try it out! It was estimated to be delivered the very next day, and I impatiently waited for it, like a little kid waiting for their new toy. When it finally arrived, I happily tore open the box and set everything up. When I used it for the first time ever, I was immediately impressed with how easily it would glide over my skin, and how comfortable and painless it was to use, even on the highest setting! Speaking of which, there are three comfort settings; Comfort, Dynamic, and Efficiency. Comfort is supposed to be best for sensitive skin, while Efficiency has the most power and the quickest, smoothest shave. However, I have sensitive skin myself, and the Efficiency setting is no issue for me! The closeness of the shave from this electric shaver surprised me a great deal. What they are saying in the reviews is true! Philips Norelco’s 0.00mm closeness claim definitely checks out! I was able to achieve BBS smooth skin with just my FIRST SHAVE, having NEVER used a rotary shaver before! This thing really does shave as close as (maybe even closer than) a manual razor! The power of the motor is unbelievable for how quiet it is. It’s one of the quietest electric shavers I’ve ever used, yet when you turn it on, you can literally feel the torque in your hand as it starts up. The shaver is designed for use on your face and neck, yet I had no issues with shaving other parts of my body. I have used this thing on my arms and my legs, and was able to achieve the same level of BBS smoothness, with NO irritation, NO discomfort, and NO redness! You do need to be a bit patient if you want a SUPER smooth shave, but it’s still much faster than shaving with a razor! So I can confidently say this thing is safe to use on your body, too! I’m not sure if I’d be comfortable with using it on more… intimate areas, though. There are a few different accessories available for this razor, and I must say I recommend getting the bundle that comes with all of them (I purchased the Space Grade shaver, which has a nice blue color). The Qi charging pad works as you would expect, and the shaver sits nicely on it, the top part resting in a small dock. The nose and precision trimmer attachments are sufficient. Not great, but not bad either. You are required to remove the shaver head in order to use the attachments. The Quick Clean Pod functions as the name would suggest; you place the head of the shaver in it and it thoroughly cleans it in about a minute. The cleaner has a fresh scent and is also lubricated, so your next shave always feels smooth and fresh. The travel case is nice and bulky, easily fitting the shaver along with some accessories. Overall, I would say that I very highly recommend this shaver. You will not be disappointed at all with how smooth and comfortable a shave it offers. It’s also pretty lightweight and smaller than you might think. It’s quite maneuverable! The accessories and cleaning pod are nice to have and I would definitely recommend them as well. The shaver is also IPX7 waterproof, so you can use it in the shower, or wet shave with it if you’d like. I personally prefer to shave dry, as it doesn’t require any shaving cream or anything, is much less messy and time consuming, and still results in a VERY close shave. But of course, to each their own! Find out what works for you, and enjoy BBS smooth skin with every shave!

Convert from Bruan and a great improvement
Took something of a leap of faith with a Norelco shaver, having used lots of Bruan foil shavers over the years. I have a fairly light beard and somewhat sensitive skin (tend to get ingrown hairs) but the challenge for me is random direction growth on my neck. Braun shavers worked OK, but pulled and tended to cause more bumps. Shifted to both straight razors and old-school DE's but really wanted the convenience and speed of an electric. I was concerned about the shape of the heads getting under the nose, but it works fantastic. I may have had low expectations due to countless online reports that rotary shavers are not close shavers. This is complete BS! Using the Norelco has been a joy, and for an even closer shave I've discovered using a bit of shower gel and wet shaving in a nice hot shower. I can honestly say that this thing provides a shave as close as a DE or a straight with 2 passes. The Space Grade Edition, SP9886/89 version is (IMHO) a bit overpriced BUT I will concede the color is fantastic! On the plus/value side, this package does come with maxed out accessories. The clipper and nose/fine trimming attachments are very good, despite having to swap them out compared to integrated trimmers. Some have complained about the Qi wireless charging being slow, but I have found it to be great and despite my (and wife's) OCD nature, it looks great on the countertop. The full charge lasts much longer than I expected and despite the Qi pad being too large to conveniently pack on a trip, I don't travel for 3+ weeks so it is ZERO concern. The cleaning pod is quite effective, but I tend to wash the shaver with a little hand soap and spray with some Andis clipper spray instead. Will test drive the cleaner more in the coming months but actually find it useful. The travel case is HUGE, but I will say that it is no more cumbersome than the shaver-only cases available. I purchased a shaver-only case from Hermitshell (great BTW) and just the plastic head-cover (also great) and would submit that it you are REALLY pressed to minimize space, the best bet for travel is to pick up the head cover, pull it from the shaver and pack the two in your douche kit. If not cramped for space, the case that come with the shave is actually great. So a long-winded post, to say I am exceptionally pleased with the Space Grade Edition, SP9886/89 Norelco! I say that, fully ready to return it and buy the new Bruan 9 Pro if it sucked, but this thing is on-point. If you are comparing shavers, this is WELL worth your time. I say that having used nearly every shaving implement available leveraging technology from the 19th century to today. Yup, it's that good...

Great Shaver
This is a first impressions review. I’ve had this razor about a week and a half now. I’ve shaved about 5 or 6 times so far. I have/had a Braun Series 9 Pro +. It is a wonderful razor. The only issue I had with it was my neck as my neck hairs go crazy all over the place. I had to go over and over my neck area. I understood that the Norelco should, in theory at least, make shorter work of my neck hair. Perhaps by a little but not much. Right off the bat, I have to say that my skin is having a harder time adjusting to the razor than the Braun. Tonight, I tried wet shaving in the shower for the first time ever (with any electric razor). I used Nivea sensitivie skin shave gel. The Norelco glided over my skin. I got an incredibly close shave, but surprisingly my neck was still very red and irritated. I’m hoping that my skin will adapt because I really like this razor.

LOVE THIS RAZOR!
Fantastic razor. I have owned a Norelco 1280X for years, it came with a motorized cleaning tank and served me well for years but it was time to get a new one and I opted for a SP9886 and love it. Right out of the box it cuts like a new razor blade, super smooth and close shave on a two day old beard. I'm so happy with the cutting action and the design. Feels perfect in my hand no matter how I hold it. Love the purple color, this razor looks very cool and comes with a zippered hard carry case. Charger is a flat plate that I like but some may not like that it has to lay flat on top to charge. Trimmer is not a pop out, you have to snap on a separate trimmer but it is a larger trimmer and works very well, there is also a included nose hair trimmer. I have not used the cleaning system yet. The head pops open and is easier to clean than my old Norelco. Expensive but a beautiful razor and nicely built for long service.

Very deep wet shave! Bulky charger!
15 years ago I went from Norelco to Braun. That was a mistake. I had two top of the line Brauns. Eventually both died after 7-8 years. While I was happy with their shave performance, this thing is not at the same level. I had no idea what I was missing. I would have not believed the difference if someone told me. 24h after a wet shave, using shaving cream, I am still clean shaved and presentable (lighter hair color here) in a business meeting, work, etc. The Brauns gave me maybe 16 hours. It is also quiet and does not require a lot of push over your skin. I easily save 2-3 mins over the Brauns. No irritation either and I do get those. The cut is almost at the level of a razor blade when shaving against the direction of the hair except if I use a blade in that manner my skin blows up. Not with this shaver. The only negative is the induction charger is huge for travel and no direct plug in port. I do travel a lot. But you do get 10-12 shaves on a single charge. Ok for trips but on a long vacation the charging pad must come with you. Supposedly works with other induction chargers. I have not tried.

nice.. but
I'm not going to get into the technical aspect of this shaver, just read the ad. I have owned many Philips Norelco razers through the years, always bought a new one before the old one wore out. This is the finest shave I've ever had. It took around three shaves before my facial hair adapted to it, but it's the closest, smoothest shave I've ever had. My wife keeps toughing my face in unbelief of how close and smooth it is. It's a well thought out design, just dig into your pocket and buy it! 2024/09/09: downgraded it from a 5 star to a three star because after using this for a while, I keep trying to like it, but have changed my mind on how it cuts. I really want to like it, but every time I use it, well.. The design is really nice looking, it has a lot of great features, but it does not shave a consistent shave across the face. What I mean is this, where it cuts, it is a close shave, the problem being it seems to not want to shave certain areas of the face. After shaving my wife notices spots it misses. I see them when I'm shaving, I go over them all different ways, up, down, circular clockwise, circular counter clockwise, I've even tried lifting and dropping down, and some places it just will not shave. I'm an older person, it may be because the skin isn't as tight as it was when I was younger. To me it seems like each shaving head is to far apart from each other, which even when trying to get close to the mustache or sideburns, it can't get close to get the hair. I always have to finish up with another device. I've owned many shavers from this company before, and never had a problem like this, but the older design had a more "compact design" of the layout of the heads. I may have to change shavers, because it gets progressively aggravating. Just beware..

S9000 Prestige Space Grade Edition SP9886/89
UPDATE: The replacement part sent to me by Philips was apparently the wrong part, I got a new shaver and it has the same head attachment. I could have kept this one if I was sent the correct part. The new one is also a S9000 and it shaves great also. This is a tough one, good and bad. I really like the shave of this shaver, I have used Norelco for 30+ years and this one cuts really good. It doesn't take up much space on counter top with Qi charging pad. Overall with cut, quality, looks, and design I am very pleased. UNFORTUNATELY for the bad part: they sell the shaving heads but if you need a repair part like me for model SP9886/89 Space Grade Edition, they don't make repair parts anymore and the web site https://www.usa.philips.com/c-p/SP9886_89/- says "Unfortunately this product is no longer available." I needed a repair part because I have a big young dog that got shaver off counter and chewed and broke head, no problem and that is my fault, I will order a new complete head. Philips customer support sent me a head for an in stock S9000 Prestige and it doesn't plug into the shaver because it's designed different. I contacted the Philips North America Consumer Experience Team again and they said there is no replacement part for this model. I hate to leave a bad review and the problem I had is very rare but don't sell a product without making repair parts.
