An intimate self-portrait of one of the most renowned Mexican artists of the twentieth century, this beautiful book is “a visual document, engaging the eye with a volcanic profusion of penned-and-painted imagery” ( New York Times ). For more than forty years, Frida Kahlo's personal diary remained hidden from public view. Filled with vivid paintings, handwritten reflections, poems, dreams, political thoughts, and deeply personal revelations, it offers a rare look inside the creative life of one of the world's most celebrated artists. Now published in its entirety with an introduction from Carlos Fuentes and insightful commentary from art historian Sarah M. Lowe, Frida Kahlo’s amazing illustrated journal documents the last 10 years of her turbulent life. These passionate, often surprising, intimate records reveal many new dimensions in the complex personal life of this remarkable artist. The 170-page journal contains the artist’s thoughts, poems, and dreams―many reflecting her stormy relationship with her husband, artist Diego Rivera―along with 70 mesmerizing watercolor illustrations. Her views of love, politics, and more come into sharp focus in a kaleidoscope of creativity and thought. In his introduction, acclaimed author Carlos Fuentes ties Kahlo’s images of pain, loss, mutilation, and transcendence to Mexico’s historic cycles of revolution and reaction. Sprinkled with irony, black humor, even gaiety, and augmented with translations of the diary entries plus commentaries and photographs, her diary stands as a reminder of not only Kahlo’s formidable talent, but also her resilience and courage. The text entries, written in Frida’s round, full script in brightly colored inks, make the journal as captivating to look at as it is to read. Her writing reveals the artist’s political sensibilities, recollections of her childhood, and her enormous courage in the face of more than 35 operations to correct injuries she had sustained in an accident at the age of 18. This intimate portal into Frida Kahlo's life is sure to fascinate fans of the artist, art historians, and feminist scholars alike. Review: Love Frida - I loved this book! I can't seem to put it down I do have to say that I would recommend it for billingual readers you will get a better understanding of the book. It is translated in english towards the back but, spanish readers will benifit the most out of the book because you will be able to understand Frida's humor about Diego. The first part of the diary is all in spanish and was written by Frida. The 2nd half is the english translation that will show a small replica of her drawings with the english translation. Some words are better left in spanish because the translation in english will not do them justice. Frida expresses her feelings so well that you can't help but feel her burning passion for diego and her lonliness. Frida was an intersting individual and her art is magnificent. She was an artist and a poet. Frida's diary is very morbid to say the least but, I love it. She expressed exactly what she felt at that exact moment. Her explanation to the way she sees each color is fantastic. I have gone through her paintings to see how many times she used the color Yellow. Buy the book to find out what this color means. Her physical pain is obvious and her paintings speak out for them selves. There is no doubt she was madly in love with diego above all. I learned much more about her through this diary. Please buy the Frida movie starring Selma Hayek things will make more sense to you. The author of this book uses every day language to translate her art. It is a must have book, I will definetly read it over and over. The book is absolutely a must have for Frida addicts like myself. I sometimes get lost while I'm reading it because I feel as if I can see and feel what she is describing. I absolutely love Frida and her artwork. Don't hesitate to buy this book it is worth every dollar you spend. Review: My review on this book. - this book book contains the paintings of frida kahlo & her actual diary pages that are even in the same language as the actual one. (Spanish) the author had a a section of a book dedicated to translating her diary pages & her poems. He also includes his opinion on her paintings, the cover can be taken on and off due to it being paper the actual book cover is black and the writings are gold. Amazing book 10/10 although if you’re a parent and thinking of buying it for your child or teen it does include nudity (Frida kahlo has some full body self portraits completely nude). Buy this book ! 100/10

Intriguing!
This book was delivered today, I got home at 9:30, had it read by 10:30. I could NOT put it down. I am a huge fan of Frida Kahlo. I admire not just her work, but her life. I admire her will and desire to live despite the hardships she faced, both physical and mental. Her work and words are so powerful and inspiring. The book was in perfect condition. I also LOVED the fact that it was like an actual art journal. I loved that the drawings appeared to "bleed" through the page (They didn't, the pages were actual normal pages.) as if the journal was photocopied. Such a beautiful book.

Spectacular
Have you ever wondered how artist become inspired with their ideas? This book only peaks at Frida’s creative process, so many years after it was written. This is better than an autobiography, it opens up her creative soul. The cover moved me to purchase this book, three pages into reading, I’m so satisfied with the book. I can’t wait to pour over all of the pictures and re read it….buy the book feed your inner artist!

The Diary of Frida Kahlo : Daily Read, Kept On Top Of My Bookshelf
The introduction was a beautiful glimpse into the beginning of a journey that "The Diary of Frida Kahlo" took me on. One of logic, passion, bits of pain, humor, love and the confusion of which art tries to help us cope with issues we find unbearable to ever comprehend. A daily read for me whether it be if I can only fit in a few minutes of my favorite parts of have the leisure of enjoying the whole body of the book. Love isn't a strong enough word for how much I enjoy it but will have to do, I love it a great deal. Recommend it to anyone looking to mix the beauty of images with the gorgeous mind of a poet as I find most of the journal entries of her's were.

Great insights into the heart of an artist; exorbitant price.
I love this book. I enjoy seeing how a great artist records their thoughts and feelings in words and images, and what content they display. I bought a copy of this book in July 2006, new, for GBP8.54. Now, the price without discount is GBP25. That's a threefold increase in less than 19 years. The same increases can be seen for books in general (I have many books that I purchased ten, fifteen, and twenty years ago, so I can see the trends.) Pretty soon, books will be only for the wealthy. Perhaps that's what is intended: keep the masses ignorant so they are easier to control.
