Throw in a bit of drug dealing and you have the full flavour of this collection, bringing together the rap talents--and otherwise--of Queens, New York. Inevitably for a label showcase, this is an album of variable quality, but it has some genuinely strong stuff on it. Perhaps it doesn't bode well for the Ill Will roster that this is by Nas himself, along with other long-established names whose gifts are undebatable: Mobb Deep, Roxeanne Shante and the legendary Marley Marl. The major exception among the new blood seems to be Bravehearts, who join Nas for the ferociously pornographic stand-out track, Oochie Wally--as catchy and savage a piece of hip-hop as has come snarling out of NY in many a year. Also notable are Mr Challish's mellifluous "Money" and Millennium Thug's contribution to the pessimistic "Teenage Thug". --David Bennun
