Scooby-Doo and the Goblin King (DVD)
Product ID: 6340514
The best, original Scooby-Doo animated movie seen for some years, Scooby-Doo and the Goblin King is genuinely imaginative, fun, and full of surprises--particularly in its vocal casting. Besides the usual group--Casey Kasem still going strong as the voice of Shaggy (since 1969), Frank Welker as both Scooby-Doo and Mystery Inc.'s leader, Fred, Mindy Cohn as Velma and Grey DeLisle as Daphne-- Goblin King features Wallace Shawn, Lauren Bacall, Tim Curry and Wayne Knight in substantial roles. The lively story finds the Mystery Inc. gang enjoying a Halloween night at a carnival, where a hack magician (Knight) steals the power of a fairy on unauthorized leave from the spirit world. Faced with a threat to Fred, Velma, and Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby enter that parallel dimension overrun by elves, headless horsemen, witches, a talking pumpkin, etc. Their mission is to get to the Goblin King (Curry), who can stop the magicians feverish quest for more and more power. The story is endlessly colorful and sharp, more of a fable than the average Scooby-Doo cartoon as Shaggy and Scooby, unlikely heroes, wander through a wonderland of ghouls for an answer. --Tom Keogh Scooby-Doo and the Goblin King (DVD) What a predicament! The Amazing Krudsky, a failed carnival magician, steals the light magic from Princess Fairy Willow, and Scooby-Doo and Shaggy must stop him or everyone will be turned into horrible Halloween monsters! Our heroes board the Grim Reaper Railroad into the fantastic world of Halloween Land to retrieve the powerful Goblin Scepter from the Goblin King before midnight. Along the way, they encounter the infamous Headless Horseman, the helpful Jack O'Lantern and a frisky broomstick that takes them on the ride of their afterlives. Besides Mystery, Inc. regulars, the Guest Vocal Cast is a Halloween Hoot, including Lauren Bacall, Tim Curry and "Heroes"' Hayden Panattiere. Your house will shake with enchanted creatures and weird worlds in this merry animated adventure! Review: Magically Awesome 😎 - Scooby Doo is my JAM! Goblin King is one of my faves. A Scooby Doo movie that deviates from the norm to good effect
This movie strays from the usual Scooby Doo fare, to its benefit. As other reviewers have noted, this isn't a mystery so much as a quest. The focus is also almost wholly on Shaggy and Scooby, with the remainder of Mystery Inc probably featuring for less than 20% of the movie. The movie has some jaunty musical numbers and is boosted by a surprisingly high profile voice cast for a direct-to-DVD movie (even if it is something as popular as Scooby Doo). Jay Leno, Tim Curry, Hayden Panettiere, and Wallace Shawn (AKA Rex from the Toy Story series) all feature as guest characters, with Leno and Shawn putting in particularly fun performances. Some of the monsters may be a little scary for younger children, but if they were able to watch Zombie Island they should be fine with this movie. While it doesn't reach the storytelling heights of Zombie Island, I'd say it's at least on par with Witch's Ghost and Alien Invaders and definitely better than Cyber Chase. This movie is worth watching for Scooby Doo fans and would probably be a blast for kids around Halloween. I'm definitely planning to revisit it at that time of year.

Fun Halloween Addition
My son is really into Scooby Doo. I got him this movie to add to his collection. Scooby and the gang are at a theme park for Halloween and a magician steals the fairy princess and her magic. He just needs the Goblin King's scepter to complete his full power. Scooby and Shaggy go on a wild Halloween adventure to the Goblin's castle to try to rescue the fairy and stop the magician. It's a great and fun adventure. The movie is really based around Shaggy and Scooby more than the rest of the gang but that's OK. The rest of the gang is still involved in some way or another. My son is 4 and I'm honestly surprised he was OK with some of the elements because he isn't a huge fan of Halloween but he did great and asks to watch it again and again. Overall, if the child is a Scooby fan, I would recommend adding it to the collection.
