DSD TECH SH-U09C USB to TTL Serial Adapter with FTDI FT232RL Chip Compatible with Windows 11, 10, 7 and Mac OS

I bought the DSD TECH SH-U09C to access the 3.3V UART console on an IP camera. My Mac recognized it as an FT232R USB UART, and it passed a TX/RX loopback test without any problems. It then provided a stable bidirectional connection at 115200 baud throughout a lengthy bootloader and firmware-recovery job. I was able to interrupt U-Boot, issue commands, monitor the complete firmware transfer, and recover the camera successfully. The selectable voltage and clearly labeled pins are useful. Just understand that the VCC pin is a power output—not something every project needs. In my case, I connected only GND, TX, and RX and powered the camera separately. Solid, dependable adapter that did exactly what I needed.

perfect, I use this as a UART to USB converter and it has been going great. I like how easy it is to short vcc to 5v or 3v.

I needed to revive my router. This USB to TTL adapter with included cable worked perfectly. Windows 11 automatically installed it as a COM port without needing drivers or any compatibility issues and with the use of putty I was back in business in no time... I like that the 3.3v vs 5v jumper is clearly visible - no danger of getting it wrong... Included cable is a little stiff but ok to use - just make sure everything is connected correctly before powering on the adapater and the device you are connecting to...

It's a good overall. It's work great 👍 I try to use in my old router.

Update: The boards work perfectly in every way, except with the Reyax RLYR998 LoRa boards. On Windows, Linux, Raspberry Pi, or Android, they just will not work with the LoRa board. I have returned the boards and changed my rating from 5 to 4. I had no installation problems at all. The boards are seen as "com12" on Windows and "/dev/ttyUSB0" on Linux and Raspberry Pi. I found that the "cutecom" program is available on all three platforms, which gives me a good way to use them for initial testing or to interface to Reyax LoRa radios. Using various online examples, I was able to make a little Raspberry Pi Python program use the boards. Other terminal programs that worked for me are: "Serial USB Terminal" on an Android phone, PuTTY,HTerm, gtkterm, screen, cu and Picocom on Linux, PuTTY and Terminal.exe on Windows. However, I came to learn that that the Raspberry Pi has its own "UART" built into the GPIO pins. If you want to control a Reyax LoRa Radio from the Pi, you don't need these DSD Tech boards at all. Just hook up to the proper GPIO pins, enable serial I/O in raspi-config, and specify /dev/ttyAMA0 instead of /dev/ttyAMA0. From a Python program, the GPIO pins and the DSD Tech board are used in exactly the same way.

The FTDI drivers are flawless unlike the CP2102 drivers which are old and outdated. Save yourself the headache and trouble and pay 5 more dollars for the FTDI chips, you will thank yourself in the future. The variable voltage selection jumper on this converter is very useful for handling hardware that runs on 3.3V instead of 5V, saving yourself the hassle of buying, owning, and subsequently finding the right voltage TTL reader. The jumpers included on this were also nice. Great value, would buy again, would recommend to anyone looking for a TTL reader. Use case: Reading serial terminal data off an SBC due to bugged OS compilation software (a lot of bootleg, or alternative rpi clones do not have reliable wifi config options when compiling and writing the software to the boot media. Often, these have no video output, so doing any computing becomes impossible. You need one of these to change the settings on the OS after initial boot to connect to your network to SSH into them).

I bought this adapter to interface a uBlox Neo-8M GPS module to use as a time reference with PPS to create a stratum 1 NTP server on Windows 10. It powers the GPS with no problem. I soldered a lead to the CD (carrier detect) hole on the PCB and connected it to the PPS output of the GPS module. It works, but be careful. It appears that the RS-232 control signals (CD, CTS, RTS, DTR, DSR, etc) are inverted. So my PPS driver was triggering on the falling edge of the CD signal instead of the leading edge. I was able to compensate for this by using an offset.

Worked perfectly with no driver issues

A reliable, rock-solid USB to TTL Serial Adapter that gives you direct, low-level access to hardware. If you are into tinkering, flashing custom firmware, or recovering "bricked" electronics, this DSD TECH USB to TTL Serial Adapter is an absolute must-have for your workbench. I bought this for a specific weekend project: converting a locked-down $25 T-Mobile Cellspot (TM1900) into a fully unlocked ASUS RT-AC68U router. To perform that conversion, standard web-based firmware updates won't cut it. You need a direct, low-level hardware terminal connection to the router's processor—and this little adapter handled the job flawlessly. My Experience and Observations: • Genuine FTDI Chip Stability: The main reason I picked this specific adapter is the FTDI FT232RL chip. Cheaper serial adapters often use questionable clone chips that suffer from driver issues or erratic signal drops. This FTDI chip was recognized immediately by Windows without any driver headaches and provided a completely stable, rock-solid terminal connection throughout the entire process. • Essential for Low-Level Console Access: The adapter acted as the perfect physical bridge, converting my computer's USB signal down to the 3.3V TTL signal expected by the router's internal PCB headers. It allowed me to bypass the ISP's bootloader locks, interact directly with the CFE (Common Firmware Environment), dump my original MAC address backups, and clear the NVRAM manually. • The Ultimate "Debricking" Lifeline: When you're modifying bootloaders or flashing non-standard firmware, there is always a risk of a bad flash leaving you with a dead device. Having this serial connection hooked up to read real-time boot logs is the only way to diagnose boot failures and manually re-flash corrupted partitions. • Helpful Status LEDs & Voltage Switch: The onboard LEDs for TX, RX, and Power are incredibly helpful for verifying that data is actually moving back and forth when debugging. Plus, the jumper switch makes it very easy to toggle between 3.3V and 5V logic depending on what board you are working on. Final Thoughts: This $10–$15 adapter allowed me to transform a cheap $25 ISP unit into a high-performance, fully featured ASUS router that would have otherwise cost over $100. If you need a reliable serial interface for debricking routers, flashing microcontrollers, or hardware debugging, this DSD TECH unit is worth every penny. Highly recommended!

Adattatore uart perfetto e funzionale . Sono riuscito ad interfacciarmi coi un vecchio modem/router linksys bloccato e piallarlo a dovere prima di ricaricare firmware mod.

Good Solution for Serial port converter, used to reset the Electronic devices. Thank you.

Honestly I havent used for some reason not related with product.

usb to rs232 works well easy to get up and running . no software (drivers) required for windows or linux
